Five Small Words That Make My Heart Skip A Beat

So, the General and I were sitting at the kitchen table, working on math, when we heard Captain Chaos call out, “Hey, look at me, boys!” This phrase scares the hell out of me. It isn’t the first time she’s used it, and I always pray that she will stop saying it by the time she reaches age 14. Both the General and I looked up from our work and saw the girl standing in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room. The rest is hard to describe. She was wearing her shirt and one great big proud smile. From the waist down she was wearing a pair of her mother’s underwear. “Wearing” is not quite the right word. She was standing in a pair of her mother’s underwear, pulling the waistband up around her chin. She probably could have pulled them over her head if she wanted to. This is not a cheap shot on my wife, either. My wife could be a size one and the peanut who is my daughter would still swim in her clothes. Some kids try to walk around in their parent’s shoes. My daughter? Well, she goes right for the drawers.

funny. Red likes to put his dad's boxers on. Although that seems somewhat normal.

Oy. Hey, at least she had clothes on. My DramaBoy prefers to run around a la Adam before the Fall, which doesn't necessarily bother me all that much, but when guests are around there is a little embarrassment. Also, these days I'm trying to make him wipe his own damn butt after pooping, and I'd really prefer to scrub his underwear than the carpet.

Just sayin'.

Another day brightener for me. Thanks for the laugh!

Last time I heard “Hey, look at me!” GL was about to parachute from the top bunk using a blanket as a parachute. I assured him that blankets make extremely inefficient parachutes. I did not tell him how I know this.

I'm guessing the Captain is about the age BB was when we had the pastor and his wife over dinner. I sent BB upstairs to change his clothes. He went upstairs, took everything off, and came back down to ask what he should wear. Never occurred to him to put anything on first.

When I hear a phrase like that is generally because one of the children is trying to sky dive from atop of a chandelier!

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Especially if she wants to dress like her peer group in about ten years.

Is it wrong to lock one's daughter in one's basement until age 23?
