I’ve been MIBA (Missing in Blogging Action) for about a week now, due primarily to the fact that I’ve had absolutely nothing to say. About a week ago I planned to write about the British prisoners who won the right to celebrate pagan holidays while in prison, but I never got around to actually writing that blog post. The words never came out the right way. Seriously, who in their right mind celebrates these pagan holidays? The Festival of the Lactating Sheep? People actually celebrate when their sheep lactate? Is there a Festival of the Nocturnally Emitting Bull? The Dance of the Ovulating Equestrian? And who was the first person to think of such a holiday?
But I digress.
I’m writing today to thank Marlis for her kind words in nominating me for a blogging award. It’s the “Stylish Blogger Award.” Marlis writes over at The Itchy Homeschooler. I’ve never thought of my blog as particularly stylish, most likely because I know that I am NOT particularly stylish. I’d probably be better suited for a “Pedestrian Blogger Award,” but I’m not complaining. I’m thankful when any reader takes the time and effort to let me know that they read and enjoy. So, in order to accept this award I have to write seven things about myself. Marlis provided me with the list of things to write about.
1. I have lived on three continents.
I have not lived on three continents. I have visited three continents. I’ve lived on two, one being North America and the other Antarctica. Oh, Kansas certainly felt like another continent when I first moved here, but that's only because of Jayhawks fans.
2. Certain music can move me to tears.
Certain music bores me to tears. Mainly opera. Which my brother sings. Professionally. It certainly makes for some awkward moments when he asks me why I’ve never heard him sing opera and I explain that if I have the choice between attending the opera and playing Russian roulette…well, let’s just say that the spin of a .38 caliber gun cylinder is music to my ears.
3. I've experienced the joy of feeling life grow within me.
I thought I had, but it was gas.
4. I like spicy foods and cook a lot of ethnic dishes, primarily Indian.
I, too, like spicy food, but whenever I put an ethnic dish in the oven it cracks, and the food falls all over the place. They’re hard to replace, too, so I don’t cook ethnic dishes any more.
5. I learned English when I was 15 and it's been my primary language since then.
I learned English in my early twenties. Before that I spoke Chicago. Dems good hot dawgs, youse guys. Anyone got an Old Style?
6. I never thought I'd have a blog, it just kinda grew (I'd bet this happens to a lot of people)
Yep. But blogging saves my sanity.
7. I used to play the flute.
I play with words and ideas, and trust that everyone knows that I am not making fun of Marlis or her answers, but putting my own touch on answering seven things about myself. After a few of these types of lists, originality is difficult!
Marlis, thank you for the award!
Let's pass this on to Treasured Chapters, Home Spun Juggling, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Joy and Gladness; Eat, Fart, and Bark, and Eagle Eye Academy.
