Nate Etter, Man About the Web

So, I finally found internet access thanks to my computer literate brother-in-law. In the course of filtering through a couple hundred e-mail messages I discovered a note from Nate Etter, a representative of the Travel Channel. I cannot guarantee that Nate Etter is a real person. Nate might be the fictitious name that all on-line representatives of the Travel Channel use for making contact in the virtual world. Like “Michael” from Home Depot or “Mary” at Hobby Lobby. She certainly was surprised when I asked her if the name “Mary” on her name tag was her real name or just the name she used at work. Nate sent me the following e-mail:

Arby,

Since you recently blogged about Noah's Art Waterpark, I thought you and your readers would be interested in this week’s episode of Travel Channel’s new series Bert the Conqueror. This week host/comedian Bert Kreischer visits the Wisconsin Dells for the ultimate variety of water and thrill rides. The episode is set to air this Wednesday, July 21, at 10PM E/P, but I have provided you the link to a private screening room that will allow you to watch the entire episode immediately. The video can be found by following the link at the bottom of this email (please read the disclaimer).

I would also like to give you a short clip from the episode that can be embedded and shared as you see fit. In the clip, Bert rides Terminal Velocity: the only ride in the world that allows unattached controlled free-fall! The video can be found here:

If I may quote the kid on the trike in Mr. Incredible’s driveway, “That was totally awesome!” I saw the white framework for this ride in the distance at the Dells. It towers above the tree-tops. If I had known what the ride was, I would have been on it!

Nate’s e-mail also contained the following amusing disclaimer:

You are about to view an episode of Bert the Conqueror that has not yet aired on the Travel Channel. The details of this episode are considered confidential and should not be disclosed to the public. By clicking on this link, you hereby agree to keep this information confidential and acknowledge that any disclosure by you would result in irreparable harm to the Travel Channel, and would constitute a misappropriation of Travel Channel's exclusive property rights and a material breach of the above agreed upon confidentiality.

The “The details of this episode are considered confidential and should not be disclosed to the public,” sentence and the “you hereby agree to keep this information confidential and acknowledge that any disclosure by you would result in irreparable harm to the Travel Channel” clause completely conflict with Nate’s assurances that he “would also like to give [me] a short clip from the episode that can be embedded and shared as [I] see fit.” I thank you for joining me in doing “irreparable harm to the Travel Channel” by viewing the embedded video clip.

Feel free to watch Bert the Conqueror this Wednesday, July 21, at 10PM E/P on the Travel Channel. I will now return to my regularly scheduled vacation.

I'm setting it to record right now - just in case something distracts me and I forget to watch.

Thanks for the video. I'll plan on watching; although it most likely will be trumped by whatever Sir wants to watch.
